Adjustable Housing
The patented adjustable housing allows for easy field adjustment from 0-3 degrees in 12 increments. Its tensile strength matches or surpasses the rest of the motor, providing un-compromised integrity in the downhole motor. The adjustable housing features a wear pad approximately 120° around the adjusting ring right at the bend point. Regardless of the bend angle setting, the wear pad will always be opposite the high side of the bend. The wear pad is an integral part of the adjusting ring and can be supplied in various heights if required. The wear pad on the adjusting ring is hard surfaced for increased life.
Universal Joints
Eccentric motion of the rotor is connected to concentric rotation by a shaft fitted at each end with a sealed and pressure balanced universal joint. These universal joints have proven very reliable with an extremely long life.
Bearing Assembly
The bearing assembly is oil lubricated, sealed, and pressure balanced. Due to the method of pressure balancing, there is zero pressure drop across the seals so the seals act only as a barrier between the oil and the drilling fluid. The maximum recommended pressure drop across the bit is 1500 PSI (10,335 Kpa). The radial bearing is designed to accommodate a larger diameter drive shaft allowing it to withstand extreme radial and torsional loads. Balancing bit weight and pump-open force is not necessary due to the axial bearing capacity of the assembly.
Stabilization
Motors are available with threaded bearing housing to accept straight or helical blade stabilizers or eccentric pads. Stabilizers can be installed at the top of the motor for steerable motor assemblies. The diameter of the lower stabilizer, on the bearing housing, will be determined by the angle at which the adjustable housing is set.

CV Joint Assembly
Material – high strength alloy steel
- Design – large diameter with fatigue strength features
- Torque transfer balls – large for high torque capacity
- Temperature rating – 400° F
- Used with rig adjustable housing
Bearing Pack Assembly
- Material – high strength alloy steel
- One piece mandrel (which eliminates one threaded connection and removes two failure points)
- Very large diameter (with high fatigue strength features)
- On-bottom thrust bearings – (uses two for increased weight on bit)
- Uses tapered, shouldered, low stress threaded connections
- Temperature rating – 400° F
- Uses a “catch device” (prevents lost-in-hole in the event of a fracture)
- Uses extra radial bearings (to support high bending loads)
- Has large thru hole to maximize flow to the bit
- Uses a replaceable screw-on sleeve or screw-on stabilizer
- Uses redundant seals on the top end and lower end of the bearing pack.
